Are YOU your biggest competitor?

These past 6 months since I have started my own business, the majority of my individual coaching clients are sales people.

I love sales people. I love helping them win. I understand them. I know the thrill of winning a big job and the feeling of overwhelm staring down a big sales goal number at the beginning of the year. I know the challenges they face because I was one of them for many years. In many ways I still am.

And what I have learned from my own experience and from my most recent time in coaching sales people is that sometimes, actually often times, your biggest competitor is not that rep who seems to be winning every project, not that new shiny product they have; sometimes your biggest competitor is YOU.

Hear me out.

Whenever one of my sales rep clients are lamenting about their competitors, I have them turn inward and put the focus on themselves.

Together we explore:

Their Focus: Are they going into a sales call focused on what they can get or on what they can give? Are they focused on the sale or the relationship? Are they focused on all that they don’t have or what they do have? Focus matters.

Their Mindset: Are they stuck in a fixed mindset? Can they shift to a growth?  Do they believe they can succeed? Do they believe they have solutions to provide or just another product? Do they believe they have the ability to pivot and try a new approach? Mindset matters.

Their Inner Resilience Battery: How charged is it? Do they need to take a break and find their center again?  Are they taking good care of their body- sleep, nutrition, exercise?  Are they tending to their mind- mediation, quiet time, reconnecting to their “why”? Personal Resilience matters.

And above all we dig deep to discover the stories they are telling themselves. About their capabilities, the company they represent, the products they sell and the other people that seem to be getting in the way. The stories we tell ourselves matter.

So salespeople, I invite you to consider if you are your biggest competitor. Where is your focus? Have you checked in on your mindset? How charged is your inner battery? And what are the stories you are telling yourself?

So much of sales success is within our control.

When you discover that you are indeed your biggest competitor, you can get out of your own way.

I can help you find your fire again. I can help you become unstoppable!
